Police allegedly steal 1 000 dollars from mans wallet

WYNBERG - Two police officers allegedly stole 1 000 US dollars (R10 640) from a man’s wallet in Wynberg.

This according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the Bramley police spokesperson who said the police were investigating a case of theft.

Maphakela said the man was travelling with his colleague on Grayston Drive towards the M1 North highway. “The two men said they heard a police siren coming from behind them,” explained Maphakela. He said the men saw that the vehicle behind them was a blue and white marked police vehicle, and they stopped and two alleged police officers approached them.

“The alleged police officers ordered the two men to get out of the vehicle as they wanted to search them and the vehicle,” said Maphakela. He added that the alleged police officers then asked for the men’s wallets. “The alleged police officers held onto the wallets while they searched the men’s vehicle. The alleged police officers handed back the men’s wallets to them and told them they were clean and could drive off.”

Maphakela said after the marked police vehicle drove off, the men checked their wallets and found out that the money was stolen.

No arrests have been made.
