Police bust copper cable snatchers in Wynberg

WYNBERG - The Bramley police recovered R25 000 worth of stolen copper cables in Wynberg.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said the copper cables belonged to City Power. “We arrested four suspects for possession of stolen property after the police stopped a suspicious looking Toyota Avanza,” he said.

“The police searched the car and found the copper cables inside the back of the car. None of the suspects could say where the cables were from,” added Maphakela.

He said the suspects were between the ages of 25 and 27 years old and they were busted during the police’s Operation Thibela in Wynberg.

“Operation Thibela is when we conduct a routine search of car shops and scrap yards in various areas to check for any illegal activities.”

Maphakela said the suspects would appear at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
