Youth Day in South Africa was born out of the frustrated and blocked creativity and passion of the youth of the 1970s.
In reverence to these courageous youths the market will celebrate the creativity and passion of the youth of today at our Creative Arts Youth Festival.
There are an exciting line-up of entertainment on the day:
- 10 am SMYLe Soweto Marimba Youth League
The league with 19 of their top performers on marimbas, steel drums and brass is a programme designed to keep kids of the street, and nurture a love for music
- 11 am East Rand Youth Orchestra
Under the baton of Pienaar Fourie, 19 orchestra members will perform light and entertaining classical music.
The aim of the orchestra is to build and nurture an interest and love for classical orchestral music in the youth and to bring the wonder and enjoyment of this music to a wide and diverse audience
- 12 pm Michael Mount Waldorf High School Choir
Under the leadership of Schoeman Smit the choir will entertain with their vocal harmonies. The love and appreciation of the creative arts is introduced to Waldorf pupils from their beginner years and becomes an integral part of their school life.
There will also be a Free Expression Art Wall where anybody can draw, write and express themselves on. A donation of R50 to express yourself will be given to the Twilight Children of Hillbrow.
