Exciting events for Father’s Day

With Father's Day just around the corner, a host of events are planned that will make the day special.

With fun-filled activities planned for Father’s Day, residents can have their pick on what to do. From camping events at the Johannesburg Zoo, to exciting plays in Maboneng, Johannesburg is well prepared for Father’s Day.

First up is the Snooze with Dad taking place at the Zoo from 14-15 June from 4pm until 8am the next morning, and will feature an array of exciting events including a treasure hunt, a tour of Animals of the Amazon and a bonfire braai. The event is for families so dads can bring their children and enjoy an exciting camp-out under the stars. The event is billed to excite and ensure a perfect beginning to the special day.

More events planned around Johannesburg include an exciting line-up at The Bioscope Independent Cinema on 15 June. The acclaimed documentary festival, Encounters, continues this month with two special movies being screened on 15 June.

The first documentary is 28Up and it follows the journeys of a diverse group of young South Africans born during the last years of the apartheid era. The documentary follows them from their childhood throughout the various stages of democracy in the country. The documentary was filmed by acclaimed director Angus Gibson and will be screened at 4pm.

The second documentary, Return to Homs, follows the journey of two friends as they navigate their way through the Syrian revolution and is a Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winner. The documentary was directed by Talal Derki and will be screened at 8pm on the closing night of the festival.

Various places in Maboneng will also host delightful events including the cabaret show The Old and the Beautiful, featuring Tony Bentel, which will take place at PopArt.

Finally, the Jozi Food Market will have a variety of goodies and live entertainment to celebrate the occasion. Various stalls will sell food, craft beer and a range of gifts fathers will appreciate.
