Teams of four to six Cubs were challenged to prepare and cook a three-course meal, including a beverage, over an open fire. Alternative cooking methods, such as solar cookers and hay boxes were also encouraged.

Cubs were expected to prepare a menu, decorate and lay a table according to their chosen theme, and then serve their culinary creation to a panel of three judges. According to Marion Halstead, one of the judges, “the food was very tasty and the efforts taken by the Cubs to decorate their tables and dress according to their theme, was impressive”.
