‘Dead trees fall down like people’

SANDHURST - Concerned motorist Keith Savage warned against a dead tree that could possibly fall at the intersection of 6th and 2nd Street in Sandhurst.

Savage said he usually took that route to go to work, but after his observation of the danger the tree posed for motorists, he did not think it was safe travelling along that route anymore.

He explained, “Dead trees fall down like dead people. It could kill somebody or cause an accident.”

Savage added that the tree could fall right across the intersection or injure a pedestrian.

Jenny Moodley, spokesperson for City Parks said they had received a number of complaints about trees that have been uprooted stemming from the heavy winds. “All tree maintenance teams have been deployed to ensure that these trees are removed from harm’s way, and after-hours teams are on standby to deal with any further reports of trees that are uprooted,” she said.

Moodley said residents could report any uprooted trees to the Joburg Connect Call Centre.
