Children benefit from Roche’s walk

SANDTON - Roche South Africa, a subsidiary of Roche Global, a major international pharmaceuticals organisation, will host its annual charity walk on 13 June.

The Roche Children’s Walk is a major initiative that is held annually to raise much-needed funds for orphaned children foundations in South Africa and Malawi.

The walk, which is part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility programme, is held as a way to change the lives of disadvantaged children in South Africa and Malawi.

Hundreds of employees are expected to join the walk which will take place in Illovo, Sandton.

“The company’s support in Malawi aims to encourage self-sustainability by helping local communities develop the skills and knowledge which will improve their lives today and for future generations to come,” said Brenda Xiphu, head of regulatory, access and public affairs.

Since its launch in 2003, employees of the company have been collectively and sustainably supporting the Children’s Walk, through their generosity and commitment to improving the lives of orphaned children in Africa, and the rest of the world.

Millions of children in need, particularly orphans in Africa, have had their lives significantly changed through philanthropic giving.

Money raised by employees for the walk is matched by Roche, and from the 10 walks that have taken place between 2003 and 2013, over R13.2 million has been raised.

The money raised during the walk helps to implement and support projects aimed at children and run by non-profit organisations. The money also supports orphan centres where the children are given food, clothing, skills training and the chance of a secondary and post-secondary education.
