Pikitup fails Morningside residents

MORNINGSIDE - Residents Steve and Hilary Wynne are not impressed with Pikitup’s modus operandi for recycling in their area.

Steve said Pikitup had supposedly taken over the recycling from Mama She’s Waste Recyclers. “We used Mama She’s for many years without any problems, but they advised us they were no longer continuing as Pikitup was going to take over recycling in Morningside,” explained Hilary.

Steve added that since Pikitup took over, the garbage was not picked up regularly. “All this mess started after Mama She’s service was stopped,” he said. “Pikitup is making a mess with starting new systems when they could have just improved the old system.” He said Mama She’s was well-organised and picked up the garbage on time.

Hillary said they had to phone Pikitup to remind them to pick up the garbage. “Nobody has collected the recycling, nobody has done any street cleaning and nobody seems interested in doing their job,” she added.

“We put out the recycling but other people come past, tear open our bags and leave the recycling in a mess once they’ve taken out what they want.

“We have had numerous cases of dumped bags of rubbish and recycling on the municipal verge. It is disgraceful.”

Steve said Pikitup sent residents a notice explaining the new recycling service times after they took over from Mama She’s, however the entity had since not kept up with its schedule.

Pansy Oyedele, spokesperson for Pikitup said she had forwarded the enquiry to the relevant depot. “As soon as an inspection has been conducted I will advise on the plan of action,” she said.
