Bryanston-based animation studio goes big

BYRANSTON - One of Europe’s largest car manufacturers, Skoda signed off a campaign advertisement produced by Bryanston-based animation studio Luma.

The campaign calls on local and international graduates as well as job seekers to apply for jobs in various divisions of the company. At the same time, the campaign visuals give applicants a reason to believe that there is possibility for recognition and growth in the company.

Paul Meyer, executive officer for Luma said, “The novelty of location, being exposed to working with top class creatives, including a fantastic local stills photographer, as well as some of the commonalities we shared as creatives, both in South Africa and the Czech Republic, really made this project super exciting for us and fun to work on.”

Each video begins with a job seeker sitting down and dreaming about their perfect role before sending off their curriculum vitae, which transforms into an animated paper world and sees the applicant becoming a paper character who goes about working in different settings at Skoda.

“Our experience of having worked with South African creatives has been nothing short of excellent,” said Tereza Sverakova, the creative director at advertising agency, Leagas Delaney Praha. “Luma was recommended to us by a South African working in our team, and after seeing their portfolio, which demonstrated a variety of styles, we realised that they would be a good fit for Skoda.”

Meyer said with basic preplanning completed in Johannesburg, staff of Luma then flew over to Prague to undertake pre-production with the advertising agency, before overseeing a two-day shoot at the Skoda factory and design centre.
