WOODMEAD - The getaway car of four armed robbers was recovered on the corner of Woodmead and Maxwell drives.

This after a 54-year-old man and his driver were robbed at gunpoint.

Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for the Sandton Police said the man and a maxi cab driver were followed to bed and breakfast, Plymouth Place in Woodmead by a VW Caddy after withdrawing money at the Woodmead Retail Park shopping centre.

Cloete said, “The victims were threatened with a firearm and they were taken out of the maxi cab, they were forced to lie down and searched. They took them to the white VW Caddy.”

She added that one of the suspects jumped into the maxi cab and tried to start the car however, failed to start it. “The suspect grabbed the laptop that was in the maxi cab and jump into the VW Caddy,” said Cloete.

She said the suspects then drove off with the victims and took the money that was withdrawn at the shopping centre. “The suspect’s car broke down on the corner of Woodmead and Maxwell drives,” explained Cloete. “They called someone to come pick them up, and a few minutes later they were picked up by a silver A6 Audi and fled.”

Cloete said the four suspects left the two victims in the VW Caddy.

  1. This is sad story. It is not the first time that police is aware of what happens at Woodmead. But it seems the police is not taking it seriously. What about camera? I think Woodmead Mall must put boomgates. We buy stuff there at withdraw money at Woodmead, which becomes dangerous. Police MUST catch them. For sure, those bastards will come back. Police MUST not neglect this situation untill the worst thing.
