Young entrepreneurs show off their skills

WOODMEAD - Woodmeade Retail Park shopping centre hosted a Kids Market Day to encourage junior entrepreneurship.

Entries were open to youngsters between the ages of six and 18 years old who live in the area.

The event took place in the parking lot of the centre with more than 70 children participating. Participants exhibited and sold various items including boerewors rolls, toys, cup-cakes and many other goods.

Martie Vermeulen, the centre manager said, “The purpose of this initiative was to encourage junior entrepreneurship at a school level, one of our main objectives as a centre is giving back, supporting and building relations with our customers. This through creating such platforms, where kids are given an opportunity to showcase and sharpen their business skills, thus creating future tycoons.”

The parking area was transformed into a mini children’s entertainment area, with fun-filled activities which included a go-kart track, clowns on stilts, face painting, a jumping castle and performances by the Soweto Marimba Youth League Band.
