Woodworking for Everyone Launch

SANDTON- Peter Alkema is the author of Woodworking for Everyone, an inspiring book on woodwork and a tribute to his father.

Alkema will host the launch of the book on 28 May at Skoobs Montecasino.

A loving father, husband and information technology manager, Peter Alkema spent three years developing and refining his book as a tribute to his late his father who introduced him to the enamouring world of woodwork.

Published by Random House Struik, Woodworking for Everyone is a fun and inspiring how-to guide about the in’s and out’s of woodwork. The book has 13 chapters jam-packed with step by step instructions, photographs and detailed illustrations to teach the art of woodwork.

As a tribute to his father, the book also acted as an exercise in growing closer to his own family, and places emphasis on how a family project strengthens relationships. “I touch on this issue in the book where I think that family projects make for healthy and happy families, and when a family can get together with a common objective, then you have more fun together as a group which is for me very important,” said Alkema.

Alkema said he spent a significant amount of time writing the book. “Its 30 000 words and four to five hundred images and drawings, and when I was on deadline I was in and out of my study and workshop which became quite hectic,” he said.

Alkema added that the purpose of the book was to inspire and encourage others to take up this incredibly rewarding activity.

The launch will begin at 7pm.
