Alarm drives residents to the brink

BUCCLEUCH - An alarm that keeps on going off at a building owned by Atterbury Property Holdings on Old Pretoria Road in Buccleuch is disturbing residents.

According to Buccleuch resident, Vishal Ramphal, the alarm goes off at all hours of the day for about 90 seconds at a time. “The worst is when it goes off in the middle of the night or early hours of the morning. It is such a loud high pitched sound,” he said.

“I am sure I am not the only person who values their sleep on a Sunday morning, only to be disturbed by the annoying alarm.”

Buccleuch Residents Association member, Shamith Maharaj has heard the alarm go off on weekends. “I cannot pinpoint where the noise is coming from, but I am sure it is not being done intentionally, and it can be fixed quickly,” said Maharaj.

In response, Gerrit van den Berg of Atterbury Property Holdings said the tenant of the new building was installing a security alarm system. He was told that they had been testing it every night to check for issues.

“I understand people are not happy with it. They are not allowed to make a noise after sunset,” he said.

Van den Berg said testing would stop on 20 May.
