Man, woman lose valuables from vehicles

MARLBORO - A man and woman had property stolen from their motor vehicles in Wynberg and Marlboro.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police said the man had parked and left his white Toyota Fortuner on the corner of Philo and Carey streets in Wynberg.

He said the man only found out that his spare wheel was stolen from under his car after he was stopped in Bryanston. Maphakela said the wheel was valued at R6 668.

Maphakela said the woman was a victim of a smash and grab in Marlboro. “She was driving a silver BMW X3 towards the M1 north off-ramp,” he explained. “She said all her windows were closed and her doors were locked. She had stopped at a red traffic light when she allegedly heard a big bang. Someone smashed her window on the passenger side of the vehicle.”

Maphakela said the suspect took the woman’s gym bag. “He ran away and she drove off,” he added. Maphakela said the woman told the police that she would not be able to identify the suspect as it was very dark and the incident happened very quickly.

He said the damage to the window together with the cost of the gym bag amounted to R10 000.

“Motorists must keep their valuable goods in the boot so that they do not fall victim to smash and grab incidents,” added Maphakela.
