Wine consumers enjoy tutored tastings

SANDTON - The tutored tastings at the Wine Show at Sandton Convention Centre attracted new groups of South African wine drinkers.

Its aim was to increase appreciation amongst consumers, whether they are connoisseurs, wine enthusiasts or casual quaffers.

The show focused on showcasing wine producers in front of the largest global consumer market for South African wines. For the first time, South African wine producers were given the opportunity to sell directly to the public without a percentage of sales going to the organisers.

Wine enthusiasts, writers and vintners came together to experience the culture of wine through the taste, production and origin of each bottle.

The wine extra theatre attracted people who wanted to understand the wines and people sat down to enjoy tastings such as Sasha and Ian F – The Functioning Alcoholic’s Guide to Wine, Grape versus Grain and The Italian Stallions. International wine writer and judge, Robert Joseph hosted a tutored tasting to show off some of the shows favourite bottles. Joseph has chaired over 50 wine competitions worldwide and was a winner of the World Food Media Awards for increasing the appreciation of wine throughout the world.

Joseph helps consumers discover what wines they like and dislike, building their confidence to explore more wines for themselves.
