Metro police return to direct traffic

SANDTON - Metro police disappeared after a month of directing traffic along South Road, Bowling Avenue and Katherine Road.

According to motorist Fee Seedat, there was no police presence at the intersection of Olympia Road and South Road until a few weeks ago. “This is the only intersection on that stretch of road without traffic lights, so I was quite happy to see them at that spot, as it is always a mission to turn right towards Rivonia with oncoming traffic not giving one a chance to turn,” he said.

Seedat stated the metro police on Olympia and South Road were actively directing traffic along South Road, Bowling Avenue and Katherine Road for a month, and at the intersection of Olympia and South road for three days before disappearing.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Wayne Minnaar, said, “The metro officers were redeployed to perform functions during election time.”

They were scheduled to return to the intersections on 12 May.
