Rotary to host art festival

HYDE PARK - The Rotary Club of Rosebank will hold its annual art festival at Hyde Park Corner from 22 May until 1 June.

The event will feature 50 artists, including nine special guests, exhibiting more than 400 artworks which will be for sale.

Art lovers can look forward to wonderfully exhibited art and some on-site demonstrations and workshops that will be open to everyone.

Some of the guest artists who will have their art on display on the day were exhibited at the national 2013 SPI Portrait Competition.

The festival has attracted so much interest that 150 small prints were painted and donated by the artists.

These will be on sale while two large artworks, also donated to the festival, are to be raffled.

An international tribute to Nelson Mandela titled Thanks for the Colour, consisting of 95 paintings done by local artist, Salli van Druten, will be on show.

The Rotary Club of Rosebank will benefit by receiving a percentage of the sale of the art.

The money raised will go towards some of the community projects which the Rotarians are running, including funding for the Christian Care Centre in Berea, the annual Senior Youth Leadership Course and Dependable Strengths Training courses for the unemployed.
