Not enough ballot papers in Sandton

SANDTON – Some of the voting stations in various wards have run out of ballot papers.

Ward councillors were concerned that the ballot papers would not be enough for the number of people who were registered to vote. “I don’t think they planned correctly with the ballot papers,” said Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp. He said in one of the voting stations in his ward ran out of the national ballot papers. “However, community members were waiting patiently in the queues,” said Earp.

He also said there were not enough staff members at one of the voting stations in his ward which made the voting process go slower. “One of the voting stations had 15 staff members when it should have had 25,” explained Earp.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said there was no real concern in the Sandton and Bryanston areas. “There was just a small incident where the ANC were handing out T-shirts at the queues and that is not allowed, but it was stopped very quickly,” said Potter.

Mike Wood, the Ward 104 councillor said there was a similar incident in his ward but it was not an issue. “Both the DA and the ANC were handing out T-shirts,” he said. “It was all in good spirit. Other people are here wearing their T-shirts and they are allowed to, so it was not so much of an issue.” Wood added that his greatest concern was that some voting stations in his ward were running out of ballot papers.
