Smile, you’ve just been pranked

BRYANSTON - Bryanston resident and actor Richard Lunkunku is starring in the second candid camera entertainment film Ek Joke Net!

He was drawn to the acting industry straight after school and went to study film at Afda, The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance.

Lunkunku, a seasoned actor, was cast in the up-coming film after a friend approached him to be part of one of its comedy skits. He was asked to perform in a gag with a famous Afrikaans rock band, which cannot as yet be named, and jumped at the opportunity.

“I have always loved to express myself, and growing up I found that there was an immense amount of freedom in acting,” said Lunkuku.

When asked about his pranking experience before the film, he said he always pranked his mother. “I once called my mom and made as if I was my arresting officer – she lost her mind,” he said.

He explained the process with the cast and crew as entertaining and comfortable. He said they all bonded like a family on set. “I know Solomon Cupido from other jobs that we have done together, so it was easy to rekindle our connection, and Hannes Brümmer is a very talented actor and I fed off his wonderful energy with each take,” he said. “It was an awesome bunch of crazies to work with.”

Lunkuku has played an array of roles in his acting career and enjoys the different experiences they bring him. However, when it comes to humour, “there are more laughs in comedy and we get to be children again” and he enjoys having that outlet.

Ek Joke Net! viewers can expect pranks such as students caught up in the midst of a drug bust, a blind man asking innocent bystanders to help him buy condoms, video store assistants discover pornographic films in clients’ DVD cases, and a well-known South African rock band is threatened by the police.
