Gogo Nomathemba Mbengeza’s (73) plight was reported in, Councillor comes to the rescue, week ending 4 April. Over the past two years damage to her property from rain has cost R7 000. The intervention through labour and material donation was provided by 28 DA volunteers working with councillor Shadrack Mkhonto of wards 105 and 106.
“We received donation of roofing material worth R1 900 from local building companies and I contributed R800,” said Mkhonto. “Some of the volunteers are artisans who guided us in rebuilding the whole roof which took us the entire day and following morning to complete.”
Appreciating the support, Mbengeza said she was very happy, thankful and excited with the repairs and would like to paint the house so that it matches the new roof.
