Oscar trial day 22: Five things you need to know

Oscar breaks down in court again.

  1. The morning session saw murder accused, Oscar Pistorius breaking down again in the stand, this time after he explained to the court how he walked towards the toilet door and yelled at the intruders who he believed to be in his home, ‘Get the F*** out of my house!’
  2. Nel then accused the blade runner of changing his defence. This followed after Nel asked, “Is it your defence that you fired at the attacker? At the perceived attacker?” Pistorius said it was not his defence that he fired at the perceived attacker.
  3. Nel questioned Pistorius further, trying to find out if it was putative self-defence or involuntary action. Nel asked, “So that is your new defence? Involuntary action? You can only have one defence Mr Pistorius! And yours is changing too many times, and that’s because you fired at Reeva!”
  4. After that, Pistorius broke down and, almost screaming, said, “I did not fire at Reeva!” He then began vomiting and the court was adjourned.
  5. Nel then questioned Pistorius about where his gun was placed and during this interrogation, Pistorius broke down again, to which Nel replied, ‘You’re not using your emotional state as an escape are you?’ Nel then went on to say that he wished to build a new range of questions about the toilet tomorrow and asked for an adjournment until tomorrow to which the judge agreed.
