Strike to cause disruptions in flights to Lufthansa

A three day strike by Lufthansa pilots has forced flights to and from South Africa to Lufthansa to be cancelled.

The strike by the German airline workers has also caused major disruptions to hundreds of international flights, including those to South Africa and is scheduled to last till 4 April. The strike is due to wage disputes and working conditions of the pilots.

According to Axel Simon, director of the Lufthansa German airlines and Swiss International Airlines Southern Africa branch, flights leaving South Africa have been cancelled from 1 April-3 April.

“We regret this inconvenience and urge passengers to go onto Lufthansa’s website LH.com for the latest updates. We are currently re-booking our passengers wherever possible,” said Simon.

Flights from Germany will be cancelled from Thursday night till Friday night.

Passengers booked on Lufthansa flights between 2-4 April and whose tickets were issued no later than 28 March may re-book their flight free of charge.
