The eco-friendly festival together with Johannesburg City Parks, plant 1 tree for every 50 people who attend. Last year the event raised 136 trees and helped create a trail of green footprints in South Africa.
People were drawn to the festival to listen to South African musicians and spend a day on the grass in the middle of the Sandton business district.
South Africa’s most diverse and loved artists performed at the March edition of Nokia Rise & Shine Festival. Jeremy Loops, Yoav, Shadowclub and Desmond and the Tutus attracted large crowds, while Bongeziwe Mabandla, Tidal Waves, Andra, Michael Lowman and Dave Baudains gave the audience dance and sing-a-longs tunes.
According to the organiser of the festival, Lloyd- Anthony Smith, the festival has grown since its inception last March.
“People seem eager to enjoy a day of music in the lush surrounds of Sandton Central Park,” he said. Their sponsor Nokia adds the dimension of connecting people at the festival. Anthony Smith said they contributed with the games, photo booths and blankets to people in the park.
