R60 000 worth of cigarettes stolen

HYDE PARK - A man was delivering R60 000 worth of cigarettes in Hyde Park when he was attacked by three suspects.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley Police said, “The man was parked at the delivery side parking zone and he was going to unload a customer’s order from the car when one of the suspects approached him.”

Maphakela added that the man panicked as the suspect came closer to him. “He screamed, then the suspect grabbed him and covered his mouth,” said Maphakela. He said that the man was pushed into the car and two other suspects then joined him inside the car.

Maphakela said, “The suspects ordered him to keep quiet and they promised not to hurt him because they only wanted the cigarettes. One suspect grabbed the car keys and drove the car to Third Road in Hyde Park. The suspect stopped after a short distance and they unloaded the cigarettes from the car.” Maphakela said the three suspects then fled on foot and left the man inside the car. The police are still looking for the suspects. “We are appealing to the community to come forward if they have any information about the incident,” said Maphakela.
