JOBURG – Matric pupils who dream of a career in the performing arts can start preparing to be put through their paces and make it come true.

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT), in partnership with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights (DALRO) and Nedbank Arts Affinity, announced that applications for three scholarships have opened.

This year scholarships will be to the value of R150 000, R105 000 and R60 000 respectively.

The scholarships are aimed at students who are doing their final year of secondary education who wish to pursue undergarduate studies in the performing arts.

People between the ages of 18 and 25 who are not considered to be professional and who are not registered for an undergraduate course during the year of participation are also eligible.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate competence in the disciplines of acting, singing and dancing, and must have exceptional talent.

Johannesburg auditions for the final round will be held on 15 and 16 July.

Selected finalists must be available for the final round of auditions, which will take place from 7 until 13 October.

The winners will be able to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution.

Applications close on 31 May.
