A glittering masterpiece for Miss SA

SANDTON - Jack Friedman Jewellers in Sandton City have created a glittering masterpiece for this year’s Miss South Africa pageant.

A glitzy launch was held at Jack Friedman Jewellers to reveal the new crown, which has been named Palesa.

Kerry Phillips from Sandton City said the pageant’s owners, Sun International, are giving the beauty contest a major overhaul. “As part of the process, they decided a new crown was necessary,” said Phillips.

Jack Friedman Jewellers were commissioned to create the new crown. Phillips said the team at Jack Friedman wanted something which was both elegant and memorable. “A brand new glittering masterpiece worthy of her prestigious title,” added Phillips. She said the team decided to make the crown from platinum. “One of the earth’s rarest elements, and synonymous with South Africa, which accounts for 80 percent of the world’s production,” explained Phillips. “Working with pageant designer Malcolm Klûk, the Jack Friedman team took inspiration from the natural beauty of indigenous South African flowers and traditional patterns to create the new simple and striking crown.”

The Miss South Africa 2014 pageant takes place at Sun City on 30 March.
