Education is a basic human right

VARSITY College Sandton celebrated Human Rights Day by raising money for education.

The college’s VC Cares student body which does work for charity designed leaves made out of paper and sold them on campus at R3.50 each. According to student relations manager Vasanthee Govender, students who purchased these ‘paper leaves’ wrote a message on them expressing what human rights meant to them.

The paper leaves were then strung up around the campus. Students raised R900 which will go towards the Masixhasane Literacy project.

“Varsity College nationally are in support of this initiative where we intend to raise funds to purchase mobile libraries and books for identified underprivileged schools regionally,” said Govender.

Varsity College Sandton will host various fundraising activities this year to raise R40 000 to purchase these mobile libraries for its campus.
