Mantashe on 20 years of delivery

SANDTON - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said 20 years of delivery is what the ANC has given the people of South Africa.

He said, “If we talk about 20 years of delivery we are not talking about anyone else but the ANC.” Mantashe was the speaker at the pre-election discussion forum at the Regenesys Business School in Sandton. The forum formed part of the school’s initiative to bring party leaders closer to the public. Mantashe said, “Delivery is a double-edged sword. The word delivery creates a passive society. It does not mean waiting for government to give you something. The government is there to assist and support you.”

He spoke about the development of education in South Africa and changing the economy. Mantashe said the education in South Africa was much better than the Bantu education system that existed in 1994. “We have created uniformity and equality in the educational platform,” said Mantashe. “The first challenge after 1994 was for the ANC to turn around the economy. South Africa now has a five million growth of working people in South Africa since 1994. In the last 20 years we have also built more than three million houses.”

Mantashe also spoke about how the ANC has adopted a long-term planning strategy for the future. He said the strategy would include extensively quantified results of the party’s delivery route. “Watch our performance in the Western Cape this election. Watch closely,” he added.
