Armed robbers target motorists

Armed robbers are targeting motorists in Atholl, Sandhurst and Marlboro.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said motorists need to be more cautious during their travels.

A man was robbed at gunpoint in Atholl by three suspects who drove a Golf 7 that had blue police lights. Maphakela said the suspects stopped in front of the man’s vehicle to block him.

“They ordered him to open the window, and one suspect pointed a gun at the man,” he explained.

Maphakela said the suspects took the man’s Rolex wrist watch, his car keys with the remote control, a black leather suitcase with medical tools and a wallet containing R800.

“One of the suspects was wearing a police reflector jacket,” said Maphakela.Meanwhile, in Sandhurst a woman was approached by two suspects wearing balaclavas. She was stopped outside the parking area at work while the cleaners were sweeping. A white Mercedes Benz parked behind her and two suspects approached her car window.

“One of the suspects pointed a firearm at her,” said Maphakela.

They took her cellphone, jewellery and handbag.

And in Marlboro, a man was walking towards his vehicle from a restaurant when he was approached by two men. Maphakela said the suspects demanded the man’s cellphone and ran off afterwards Alexandra. He said one of the men had a dark complexion, was about 1.9 metres tall, slender and wore a brown jacket and blue jeans.

“We are appealing to the communities of Sector 3 and 4 to be vigilant,” said Maphakela. “If you are being followed or suspect that you are being followed, do not stop. Rather drive to a public area or the police station.”

He said robbers target expensive cars and block cars in parking areas or outside the victims homes.

“Anyone with information, please work together with the police,” added Maphakela.
