Renowned band Tree63 to wow at Splashy Fen fest

As the Splashy Fen music festival gears up to celebrate its 25 year anniversary, music fans can also look forward to a special reunion performance by Tree63.

The internationally acclaimed band will be come together for a performance at the festival and a once-off reunion tour at the Atterbury theatre.

According to John Ellis, the former lead singer of the band, it will be a performance to remember for fans of the group.

Ellis explained that performing at the festival was an honour for the band because the band had performed there a few times at the height of its fame. “We wanted to celebrate the anniversary of Splashy Fen and to remind fans of the Tree63 legacy one last time,” he added.

Ellis emphasised that despite this reunion, the band was not looking to reunite permanently because times had changed and so had the music tastes of their fans.

“The plan is to ensure that we play all the songs our fans know and love but I think we all want to focus on our solo efforts for now,” Ellis explained.

Ellis said while his band mates opted to remain overseas, he decided to return to South Africa for his family, and to pursue a solo career in singing and songwriting. He added that it was a challenge starting his solo career because he had to start from scratch after achieving so much success with Tree63. Despite that, Ellis’s career has continued to grow and music remains his first passion.

Tree63 achieved international recognition and numerous awards including the billboard award before disbanding in 2004. The band was formed in 1997 as a Christian band and went on to release six albums in the next seven years.

The band will also have three performances from 14-16 April nex year.
