I swear your Honour

SANDTON- Varsity College hosted its annual code of ethics ceremony for their first year law students.

Lindsay Day, vice-principal for student support at the college said, “In a country plagued by rampant corruption and unethical behaviour, it is necessary for young law students at the outset of their legal careers to internalise the values to which this honourable profession aspires.”

Varsity College students were required to take an oath to uphold a code of ethics as a requirement for graduation into the profession. Not only were students required to swear allegiance to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, but they were also required to commit to a life of impeccable honesty, to high morals and ethical standards, as well as acting in the public’s best interest at all times. Judge Ronnie Bosielo of the Supreme Court of Appeals addressed the students in attendance on the importance of ethics and the values they will need to adhere to in their future legal careers.
