Support for teens

SANDTON - Teens who feel hopeless, helpless and want to end their lives have somewhere to turn to.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group is a mental health support and advocacy group that has launched their We Care campaign in Sandton.

To raise awareness about the campaign, the organisation gathered the media, South African celebrities and various guests from the field of mental health to inform them about the importance of the cause. The youth ambassador of the campaign, Sade Giliberti was at the launch to address guests. She attended with other TV personalities like Roxy Burger, Hlubi Mboya and many others.

“Teenagers are a volatile group in our society. We need to consider the pressures we put on them,” said Zama Mbele, a clinical psychologist. He also addressed guests at the launch and said the more society speaks out about mental illness the more youngsters can be assisted.

Doctor Helen Clark added, “Teenagers are growing people who are highly reactive. They are reactive to their emotions and the environment around them so the structures in society need to be there to assist them.”
