Tara children’s hospital receives donation

SANDTON - TARA Hospital's children’s ward was presented with toys and gifts.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Angel Gift Tree Foundation donated toys to the psychiatric children’s ward on 7 February. “The relationship between the two organisations was established with the interest of creating awareness and educating the public about mental illness,” said Luyanda Longwe, spokesperson for Tara Hospital.

She said donors of the Nelson Mandela Foundation have extended a helping hand to improve not only the lives of the patients but also to improve the facility as well. The Angel Gift Tree Foundation identified the hospital as one of the key areas to contribute to. Danielle Melville, the director of communication and outreach at Angel Gift Tree Foundation said, “We all know that children were very near and dear to Madiba’s heart, so when we identified areas where we could contribute, we were glad to assist in keeping with Tata’s legacy.”

Doctor Florence Otieno, chief executive officer at the hospital said, “We appreciate all of the support we get and we are grateful for the donations made to the children. Let us continue to work together to improve the lives of those suffering with mental illness.”
