Run fuels funds for SPCA

ACCENTURE South Africa has made a difference to the lives of the animals at Midrand SPCA.

Midrand SPCA’s chairperson Brenda Lucas and inspector Jerry Seemise received a cheque donation from the managing director for automotive and industrial Ciaran Seoighe and human resources director Sandy Mohonathan of the Woodmead-based company.

The money was raised by Accenture’s ‘Superheroes and Villains’ charity fun run, held at Blue Hills Equestrian Estate, which saw 170 Accenture employees enjoy some exercise for charity in November last year.

Marketer for Accenture Marelda Moodley said, “Race participants were divided into four categories — civilians, villains, superheroes and henchmen — and enacted these roles for the event. Civilians set out to complete a 5km course, while side-stepping menacing villains and henchmen intent on snatching their lives. Each life was represented by a red strip tucked into the civilians’ waistbands. Superheroes, true to their calling, were deployed to serve and protect civilians against their adversaries, ensuring these mortals stood a fighting chance. The first 16 civilians to cross the finish line with one or more lives intact were named the winners.”

The event was aimed at team-building, while helping out a charity in need. Seoighe said the event combined charity, novelty and fun.

Midrand SPCA is in constant need of pet food and many community members and companies have been coming to the organisation’s aid lately, but with a constant influx of animals, the SPCA is always in need of food.

The organisation has also made it easy for the community to donate R10 by smsing MIDSPCA to 38324.
