Jazz weekend set for theatre

THE Jazz and Blues Weekend begins at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton on 24 January.

This will be the second annual Jazz and Blues Weekend. It is a dynamic line-up of toe tapping artists who will entertain theatre goers and music fans alike. Jazz fans will hear swinging renditions of popular jazz standards, from the American Song Book, Latin Jazz and so much more.

Kicking off the weekend is the renowned South African Rhythm & Blues guitarist Mike Slavin, who has assembled his ‘dream’ band under the banner of The Mike Slavin Blues Project. Fans of the blues will be able to catch the band in a programme filled with renditions of the blues from the Mississippi Delta to modern times. The band boasts a line-up that includes the unique sounds of steel guitarist Sez Adamson, blues harmonica player Craig McKinnon, bassist Nippy Cripwell, keyboard wizard Bobby Pafhsovski, and American drummer Mike Canfield, as well as a special guest appearance by singer Kathy Raven.

Cat’s American Songbook and the Jazz Showcase will also entertain audiences at the Square.
