Great success for Ward 106

WARD 106 councillor Stephen Moore has seen great success for his ward this year.

He said it was a busy year and a lot happened. “We’ve seen a number of great initiatives started by the residents to help look after our area and the Clean Spruit Initiative was one of them,” he said. “We’ve seen significant development along the Rivonia development corridor. We’ve seen some positive developments with roads finally getting painted, water pipes getting fixed and some good turnaround times in responding to minor service delivery requests,” he added.

Moore said even though it was a successful year it was not all good. “Vagrancy is growing throughout the area and the city still has no formal plan to deal with the problems associated with vagrants. We’ve also had problems across the area due to the general breakdown of effective town planning and building control enforcement. Our infrastructure is also continuing to take strain due to increased densification,” he explained.

Moore said the great success this year came from groups of residents who became involved and put real effort into the community. “Residents associations, community policing forums and community action groups are where we really saw the real wins. Community members must consider getting involved in their local structures next year,” he said.
