Win tickets to Rise and Shine Festival

SANDTON - The Nokia Rise and Shine Festival focuses on the chance to spend a day in nature in the middle of the city.

Celebrating their last event for the season, Rise and Shine have organised a diverse line-up of bands from around the country to perform at Sandton Central Park.

These musicians include blues legend Albert Frost, MK award winners for Best Indie Band in South Africa Shortstraw, folk songwriter Josie Field, Soweto super group BCUC, Cape Town based pirate carnival band Mr Cat & The Jackal, Jon Savage’s new musical ensemble Kite Rider, Tamryn Jones of Southern Gypsey Queen, Jacques Moolman of Shadowclub’s side project C.O.A.X, and afro-fusion band Banda. According to organiser Lloyd-Anthony Smith, the festival has received a great reception from the public.

“People seem to love a day of music, fresh air, food and nature in a beautiful park,” said Smith. In addition, Rise and Shine have raised over 100 trees that will be planted at underprivileged schools in Diepsloot.

“The event has grown so much that we are adding to our tree count and are able to host a large variety of diverse artists and musicians,” added Smith.

The last festival for the year takes place on 11 December at Sandton Central Park on Fifth Street, and is a family-friendly environment. Gates open at 7am and attendees are invited for a pre-festival morning yoga session at 8am.
