Top Cops honoured

SANDTON - The South African Police Services held their annual Top Cop year-end ceremony at Ernest Ullmann Park, Morningside.

Officers who won certificates during the year were selected for the Top Cop of the year awards, and winners were handed certificates and gift vouchers from Brigadier Alan Billings, Community Police Forum chairperson Anthony Modena, and their colleagues.

Constables Tebello Mothapa and Ndivhuwo Machevele were awarded for preventing crime throughout the year. The officers were credited for reacting quickly to an armed robbery at Sunninghill Hospital. The team recovered four firearms, and arrested four suspects while conducting a stop and search task; they also found a stolen truck used for the robbery.

Awarded for great service in the client centre went to Constable Eliot Bango for taking over as relief commander, when no commanders were present. He ensured members were posted accordingly, monitored the Automatic Vehicle Location services and updated Sandton management through social messenger services.

For dedicated detective work, Warrant Officer Alfred Odendaal received acknowledgement for arresting two murderers, who were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonments. He was also credited with the station commander’s office award.

Excellence in support services were awarded to Catherine Modise and Thabo Mosia for outstanding work at the High Risk Unit office for compiling papers and maintaining job descriptions. For best performing officer, Captain Wouter Kotze took home the Community Police Forum’s award, for dedication and commitment to the force.
