Roads agency apologises for wrong spelling

AFTER radio presenter Mark Pilgrim posted a photo of a misspelt road sign on Twitter, the Johannesburg Roads Agency has apologised for the inconvenience.

The Sandton Drive sign at the corner of Rivonia Road was spelt as ‘Santon Drive’.

Mosa Makhalima, of the roads agency said, “The roads agency is not responsible for the street name sign on Sandton Drive, however it has been able to track down the company responsible and the street name has been corrected. The roads agency, as the custodians of all road infrastructure within the City of Johannesburg, would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

However, the Sandton Drive sign on the corner of Alice Lane is still spelt as ‘Santon Drive’. At the intersection with Sandton Drive, the William Nicol Drive sign was spelt as ‘William Nichol Drive’.

Ward 90 councillor Gordon Mackay said it was unfortunate that as signs were being replaced, more were incorrect. “I currently have nine reported street signs that are incorrect,” he added.
