HILTON Sandton invited 30 pupils of DH Carter Primary School in Alexandra for its Hilton Global Week of Service.

The pupils were divided into groups based on their interests and they were exposed to the real-life working environment of the engineering, housekeeping, banqueting and accounting departments. Staff members provided a lunch along with entertainment and fun activities for the pupils. The initiative enabled staff members to make a positive change to their community by participating in a charitable cause.

“Our team members are encouraged to give their time for the greater good of the community and it is the ideal opportunity to implement our vision of filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality,” explained Jan van der Putten, general manager of the hotel. The pupils enjoyed a day of face painting, a performance by a clown, alphabet writing, sack races, word and educational games, career discussions and hands-on help in the hotel kitchen. “We are delighted to help make a small difference in the Alexander community; we all have very busy lives, but making a child laugh and having fun with those that are struggling was inspirational for us all.” said Heidi Klein Moller, the hotel’s director of operations.
