Parkmore Scouts lose their home

THE First Parkmore Scout and Guide Hall in Holt Street in Parkmore burnt down on 11 October.

According to Scout leader Alan Smith “only a burnt out shell remains”.

The area’s security company were the first on the scene and contacted the fire department. Smith said no gas cylinders were stored in the building, otherwise the damage might have been far worse. Flags, logos and awards belonging the the Scout group were destroyed in the fire. “It was not just a building, it was a group space,” said Smith.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established by forensic investigators.

The Scout group has arranged for temporary premises at First Peter Place Scout Group at 82 Peter Place Bryanston, and hope to have their Scout Hall rebuilt by April 2014.
