Dead man found in Jukskei River

A MAN'S body was discovered in the Jukskei River in Sandown on 24 October.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson of the Bramley police, said a woman was picking up scrap in the area when she saw the deceased’s arm.

“All she saw was the arm sticking out of the water and the rest of the body was underwater,” added Maphakela. He said the cause of death was unknown and there were no visible injuries on the corpse.

“The body still looks fresh so we suspect the incident might have happened recently,” said Maphakela. The black male appeared to have been in his mid-thirties or early forties. He was found dressed in a black and blue jacket, long brown pants and he had short black hair. The man was 1,7 m tall and he weighed about 67 kg.

Maphakela said, “We are appealing to the community to come forward and identify the body. If you have a missing person that fits the description please come forward. We don’t know whether he was killed then later thrown in the river or if he drowned. An investigation is underway.”

The body was taken to the Hillbrow mortuaryfor a postmortem.
