Don’t be a victim – know what to do

LAST week I became a statistic. Another victim in the long litany of crime that seems to be getting longer faster.

How sad that we live in a country where we say how lucky we are that we are “only” bruised and battered and that it could have been much worse – which it could, had it not been for our brave, cool headed maid to whom we owe so much.

We have learnt a lesson from this experience and I pass it on to readers. Make sure your staff and you have a laminated card with all the relevant emergency numbers. Sector police numbers, your security company number, 10111 and the numbers of family.

I could not remember my son’s number or anyone else. My mind was blank.

Make sure you have a highly visible street number. Seconds count.

Builders nearby or next door, which was the case in this instance, are bad news. Be on high alert! They watch your every move and I know from my conversation with one of the suspects that what he was telling me could only have come from the builders.

Our house is on a panhandle and they had a double storey viewpoint from their street house under construction.

I commend the police and securities for their quick actions which saw the suspects apprehended.
