Pensioner queries Eskom’s attitude

GALLO MANOR - For resident Ted Nicol, receiving a monthly Eskom bill is a source of frustration and concern.

“I am a pensioner and in order to help the energy crisis, have reduced my consumption by approximately 50 percent. But this seems to have been at a great expense to myself,” said Nicol. He said his bill had risen significantly from the period February to June this year despite attempts to reduce energy consumption.

Curious as to the cause of the rise in tariffs, he examined his bills and detected an error in the tariff calculation. “They have only given me 300kWh at R0,5733 instead of 350kWh. The additional 50kWh have been charged at R1,0792 instead of R0,7159, which is an over charge of R18,16 for the 451kWh consumption. I can only trace this back to January 2011 as I do not have accounts beyond this.”

He said from his calculations, Eskom was receiving a 28 percent increase in payment from him by ‘sneaking’ in a tariff change.

Nicol wants answers to his concerns.

Eskom had not provided the Chronicle with comment at the time of going to print.
