Partnership warms the winter

SANDTON - As many as 650 underprivileged families will benefit from a food drive thanks to the Yad Aharon charity initiative, Kaleidoscopekids and Food Lovers Market Rivonia.

The funds were raised through a ‘kids for kids’ initiative called Little Champs, in which children and parents purchased vegetables from the Food Lover’s Market to be donated through Yad Aharon. Kaleidoscopekids is an outreach programme for children to teach the value of giving and was started by Chana Rivka Lewin, who is also convenor of the winter warmer programme, who wrote stories and songs, with a message about giving, for the children to perform.

Francois Boshof doubled the donation, giving a vegetable for each one purchased. The result was a bakkie-load of vegetables and oranges.

Chana Rivka Lewin of Kaleidoscopekids said, “Yad Aharon gives out a box of wholesome food to 650 families in Johannesburg on a weekly basis. The little champs participants learned about the important role they can play in bringing warm and wholesome food to boys and girls who are less fortunate than themselves, through drama and songs.”

She added, “We hope to reach other schools nationwide to have more impact on the project. Children learn by what they see, and the huge mountain of vegetables was made possible by the generosity of Francois Boshof and the devoted friends of Yad Aharon and Lauren Radomsky of Little Champs.”
