Springbok fans have enjoyed a fantastic year of rugby in 2021 despite losing the last match of the season against the English. The Springboks ended the year in the number one position on the world Rugby standings.

It has been a tumultuous year of Rugby for South Africa, the first test match that took place after a year-long break was against the British and Irish Lions. The British and Irish Lions tour kicked off in July with a few warm up matches before heading into three matches against the Springboks. The Springboks won two of their three matches against the British and Irish Lions and walked away as the winners and then headed into the Rugby Championship against their old foes New Zealand, Australia and Argentina.

The Springboks came into the competition with some motivation and inspiration from winning their matches against the British and Irish Lions but it was not enough to win the Rugby Championship and it was New Zealand that ultimately walked away as the winners for their 18th title win. All four Southern hemisphere teams then made their way to Europe for matches against the Northern hemisphere teams. South Africa played three matches on their tour of Europe. The Bokke won two of their first two matches against Scotland and Wales but fell short in their last match of the season against England, losing the match with one point with the final score being 27-26.

Rugby fans can look forward to a number of provincial and international clashes against some of the best teams in the world in 2022. The United Rugby Championship which sees provincial teams from South Africa, Wales, Ireland, Italy and Scotland compete over a few months will carry on through December into the New Year when the Lions will play their first match for the year against Leinster Rugby on the 7th followed by the Stormers playing against the Connacht Rugby on the 8th. The United Rugby Championship comes to an end 18th of June 2022.

The Six Nations is scheduled to start on the 5th of February 2022 and sees six of the biggest rugby nations in Europe participate to be crowned the best in Europe.
