JOBURG – Due to the pandemic, some walks will be virtual, a win for those who would like to know more about some parts of Johannesburg in the comfort of their own home.

The annual #JoziWalks initiative will take place between 10 October and 1 November and those who are passionate about the city of Joburg and want to learn more about it have been invited.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) announced that this year’s tours will feature fun and insightful experiences of Soweto through wellness activities, the sharing of untold stories about the diverse and beautiful township of Orange Farm, skateboarding lessons between City Hall and the Johannesburg City Library and many more. Executive manager for strategy and planning for JDA, Douglas Cohen said, “Walking creates opportunities for new interaction. It is a shared experience and that is something that happens when new people are exploring the city together.”

He added that #JoziWalks was a series of JDA sponsored walking tours that aimed to get Joburg residents to explore the city on foot, connect with their neighbours and encourage people to reflect on what made neighbourhoods work.

“The walks have proven to be a success over the years and what makes this year’s walks even more brilliant is that the organisers have listened to the public regarding inclusiveness.” In previous years, there has been a high demand for the tickets and this year was no different. Due to the pandemic, some walks will be virtual which is a win for those who would like to know more about some parts of Johannesburg in the comfort of their own home. The agency has also taken the decision to put a cap on the number of attendees per walk.

A maximum of 20 participants will be allowed to attend each walk and all walkers must wear a mask to participate.
