Do not worry, Sandton Action Sports is here to stay

Lockdown has literally halted revenue and the use of the facilities overnight to a total shutdown.

Sandton Action Sports has struggled financially under the lockdown but not to worry, everything will be alright.

So said the venue’s operations manager, Ray Lourens, who encouraged members of the action sports community to be safe while the coronavirus pandemic is still a threat. The arena is South Africa’s oldest action sports venue at 30 years old this year. “Lockdown has literally halted revenue and the use of the facilities overnight to a total shutdown,” Lourens explained.

“We have lost all game fee revenue streams, also all retail sales of refreshments and food have been lost so we are in a difficult financial position.”

Players are champing at the bit to get back onto the courts but they may have to wait until lockdown Level 2 for that to happen. In the meantime, the arena has been communicating with its members on social media. “I think mostly they [the players] miss the social aspect of our arenas. Most are in the same boat as the rest of South Africa, and exercise is very limited. Those lucky enough may have a one-on-one netball game going or a little set-up and have a back yard cricket game.”

Lourens’ message to action sports players is to be patient, as the arena is going nowhere and they will keep them up to date on the situation.”We are here to stay and are as anxious as everyone to get back to the best indoor entertainment. But be safe,” he concluded.
