Gold medals for martial arts students

SANDTON – Two Tai Chi students recently won gold medals at the International Wu Shu competition in Hong Kong.

The Shuaimeng Liu Martial Arts Centre (SMA) recently entered two of its Tai Chi students into the 13th Hong Kong International Wu Shu competition 2018.

The competition which hosted more than 180 teams and 2 500 contestants from around the world was held from 21 to 24 August.

According to Petra Liu, Tai Chi coach and communications director at the centre, their team members amassed six gold medals between them. “One for every performance of Tai Chi and our head coach Shuaimeng Liu was awarded a trophy for the best team.”

She continued that the competitors competed on five different mats for the duration of the competition. “When the coach and the students meet halfway, apply passion and hard work, great things happen.”

“This is so true of how dedicated our Head Coach is to our team members, and how they reciprocate by placing their hearts into their training. I am proud to be both a student and coach at the SMA Centre,” said Petra.

The SMA Centre is a Chinese Martial Arts school based in Rivonia and the centre provides both traditional and mixed martial arts styles for students aged from as young as five years to 80 years old.
