Learn to do parkour at home

PARKMORE – Local traceurs have found a way to exercise even in the smallest of places at home.

Parkmore’s Concrete Foundation Crew may not be tearing up the streets, pavements and sky scrapers with their awesome parkour at the moment, but they are exercising in other ways at home now.

Since the nationwide lockdown on 27 March, the parkour outfit has focused more on their Skype sessions and video tutorials for moves safe to do indoors.

“The movement style we are focusing on during the lockdown is called primal flow and/or primal movement,” explained instructor Bjorn de Klerk.

“Primal flow is a workout based on natural human movement patterns. This movement requires no equipment, only the human body and some space. We incorporate some breakdancing and callisthenics into the class as well.”

For those with very little space in their homes, De Klerk said there are ‘static movements’ one can do to increase muscle strength without the risk of bumping anything or anyone at home.

“For instance, there is one that helps you go from a sitting position to slide into a push-up.”

He said other than not being able to meet together in person, the parkour club has not been affected negatively as its main events start with the September Jam and run until the end of the year.

In fact, now is a good time to get involved in parkour as Concrete Foundation Crew is offering good prices for its online classes, which are every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5pm.
